AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
3.0: AIMS AND OBSJECTIVE
The aims and objectives of this humanitarian and labour migration organisation have been enshrined in its’ constitution of MLGWUI based on following reasons:
- To organise and educate Migrant Workers on their rights and obligations in the sojourning or destination countries they currently live;
- To promote Free Movement of Migrant Workers to and from the ECOWAS community;
- To help Migrant Workers to understand the employment, labour and other Laws that governing Labour Migrants working within the destination country;
- To provide Legal Aid for Migrant Workers and Members of their families;
- To Provide Pre-Departure Orientation for Potential Migrant Workers and Returnee Psycho-social Counselling to Returned Migrant Workers within the union and public;
- To provide continuous Cultural Orientation and sensitisation for new Migrant Workers in destination countries/states;
- To assist and provide Technical Support for Migrant Entrepreneurs in creating jobs in the host countries;
- To assisting Skills Workers with qualification who intended to seek decent employment abroad;
- To orientate Ghanaian African Migrants understand and know their Rights, Obligations and Culture before travel or migrating to other countries for work;
- To establish migrant labour workers’ unions in other countries for the interest, promotion and protection of rights of Migrant Workers;
- To ensure Migrant Workers or Immigrants in the host or sojourning or destination countries are protected or defended on xenophobia or racism;
- To act as a link or a focal body between state actors, Migrant Workers and government of host countries;
- To strengthen Migrants with one voice with one recognised union: the more union members, the more power of union has to achieve its objectives;
- To ensure Migrant Workers engaged or gained Decent Work Conditions of Service with living wage and decent pension scheme in formal and informal sectors;
- To ensure regular Equal Pay for equal work agenda for Migrant Workers;
- To ensure all Migrant Workers receive their Wage Theft before return to their countries of origin;
- To defend Informal Migrant Workers from public intimidation and harassment at market place;
- To provide Counselling on labour dispute, grievances, employment harmonious relations, labour migration, health, entry residence, business registration processes, integration through sensitization programmes including seminar, workshop and community dialogue, pre-departure, returning and integration;
- To provide Social and family welfare counselling on Disputing (ADR) settlement for Migrant Workers’ marriage partners home and abroad;
- To collaborate with other stakeholders in Labour Migration Governance and border management, trade union organisations, advocacy organisations and government agencies AU Ecossoc on matters affect Migrant Workers;
- To lobby State agencies to offer support to Migrant Workers with Non-Citizenship Identity Card and cost of work permit as well as in time of disaster;
- To create Awareness of Current Information relating to global labour migration and labour market;
- To promoting Gender on Migrant Women Workers, Decent Work, social justice, education, linguistic culture, occupational safety and health, socio-economic in migration;
- To assisting Migrant Workers in seeking and maintaining employment;
- To negotiate, mediate, rescue and ensure befitted reward(s) for victimised Migrant Worker for safe, fair and orderly return to countries of origin.
