GHANA HAS A PERMANENT NATIONAL REINTEGRATION CO-ORDINATION SECRETARIAT

The Secretariat, which the Migration and Reintegration Department of NADMO is a project funded by the European Union through the framework of the Return and Reintegration Facility (RRF) to coordinate all reintegration activities to the NADMO, which is mandated by law to manage disasters and similar emergencies, including deportees and forced returns, established by Act ,927 (2016). Therefore, the Secretariat is to ensure reintegration assistance To vulnerable Returnees in Ghana.

In her interview with the media after the sod-cut ceremony, the Head of Office of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Madam Amala Abiokoye Nwalor said the idea of support is to giving the Government of Republic of Ghana to bring stakeholders and reintegration organizations or actors in migration space in Ghana come together under one platform with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) as top leading organization to ensure that Ghanaian Returnees to Ghana receive necessary reintegration support.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Ghana, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPM) and the European Union (EU) officially held a handover ceremony of the newly National Reintegration Co-ordination Secretariat for Returnee Reintegration in Ghana on September 6, 2023 at the NADMO premises in Accra, Ghana.

The Director-General, Hon. Nana Agyemang Prempeh of the NADMO bemoaned the situation concerning returnees after their return to the country saying some Migrants left something home before labor migration departure and after their return, if found such things are not in order, it is difficult for them cope with the challenges in their situation, especially those returned without attained brain gain. Therefore, NADMO deemed it important to give national reception and support.

The Director of Migration and Reintegration Department of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Kofi Osei, who during his welcome speech, invited guests, participants and media, explained the purpose of the gathering and later led them for the sod-cut ceremony to officially complete the Handing Over Ceremony of the National Reintegration Coordination Secretariat.

The Migrant Labour General Workers’ Union International, with her education-legal-counselor department, the Finnish-French Migrant Resource Centre (MLGWUI-FFMRC), was represented by its’ Head of Education International Relations, Justice Baako Ntarmah. He was grateful to the Management of NADMO and its partners for establishing the National Reintegration Coordination Secretariat for Returned Migrants for national reintegration, information, and returnee record/data-keeping.

MLGWUI-FFMRC is therefore asking all its Members, MLGWUI Country/Overseas Representatives both in Africa and Diaspora to help inform their known Returning Migrants, Returnees and friends abroad to contact MLGWUI-FFMRC Secretariat for their Registration for onward National Reintegration Co-ordination Secretariat data and necessary support.
